My Morning Smoothie

I’ve recently started having smoothies in the morning for breakfast, either right after my yoga, or before.  If I feel I need a boost of energy that my coffee isn’t giving me, this drink will sure do the trick.

How many of us can honestly say that we get enough servings of fruits and vegetables in a day?  I can’t.  But with these smoothies, I know I’m getting a great source of vitamin C, fiber and potassium!  And I’m getting the “good sugars” too, right?

It’s a simple and versatile recipe!  Meaning you can use whatever you have on hand at the time. I planned it out so that I could mix it up from day to day and that I wouldn’t get sick of the same flavor every single time.  In this particular recipe, I actually combined the two different mixed fruits and it was amazing!  You can have fun mixing the flavors… experiment!

A couple of tips before we get to the recipe…

I started off my getting my Ninja blender ready. I. Love. This. Thing! Thanks, Mom!  She got me this bad boy a couple of years ago and I feel it’s the best one out there!  It came with a large blender/pitcher and this small (perfect smoothie size) cup.

The night before I had portioned out baby spinach into ziplock freezer bags, about 1/2 cup (ish) in each bag.  Freeze and grab one bag when you’re ready to use it!  Then, reuse and refill the bag that you just emptied with more spinach! Goodbye to the days of wasting so much spinach because I didn’t get to it in time!  Thank you, Rachel Hollis, for this tip!

Frozen baby spinach. Works great for soups and pastas too!

Ok! Let’s get blending!
To my Ninja cup, I added my bag of frozen baby spinach, half of a banana, 1 tsp of chia seeds, about 1/3 cup of yogurt (in this recipe I used strawberry), 1/3 cup of the frozen mixed berries, 1/4 cup of the mixed tropical fruit and a splash of orange juice. You can use your favorite milk instead of orange juice if you’d like! You just need a little liquid so you’re not eating ice cream… I think the juice goes great with tropical fruit, and I’m not too big on the dairy, so you do you, boo. (I had to say it…)

Here’s all the ingredients (Chia sees in my Blue Ball Jar)

Next, put your cap on the cup and secure it very tight and blend away!  It may take a few shakes to get all the spinach to incorporate or a little more juice/milk but it blends great!

I wasn’t too sure about the spinach actually getting small enough for me to not notice it, but I honestly can’t!  And I honestly can’t believe that me, of all people, can drink this!  It’s so good and all the flavors do a great job of hiding the spinach. I’m one that usually gets thrown off by textures in some drinks, but with my Ninja, I can get it blended so smooth!  (This isn’t an ad…it should be though!)

It may not look like the most appealing drink, but I promise it’s delicious!
See! Good until the last drop!

Enjoy the recipe and have fun mixing up the ingredients!  I’m excited to use avocado, greek yogurt and maybe some protein powder, they’re going on the shopping list.
